Hikes

The first week we were in Utah we went on a lot of hikes, so I decided to compact them all into one post. :)

Timpanogos Cave

First we went to Timp cave. I hadn't been there since I was a teen, so it was fun to be able to go again. 

The kids were troopers!! They made it the whole way, and we didn't have to carry any of them until the very top when Fox fell asleep in the cave and slept through the whole tour :). But once we were out he woke up and walked all the way back down. 

Battlecreek Falls 

Next we headed up to Battlecreek Falls. It was just as good as we remembered it, except we wished we would have brought our repelling gear again and repelled down the waterfall. :)

Cascade Springs

Lastly, the day before Tony headed back to Iowa, we took a stroll around Cascade Springs. This was an excellent "Iowa" hike, because there were not many hills and most of it was paved ;), but it did have some beautiful scenery. 

Utah Trip 2013

Lets start at the very beginning, a very good place to start

 (bonus points for who can name the song)

So be ready for a smorgasbord  of post about Utah. I just uploaded 300+ picture between my phone and camera...it's gonna be crazy. 

So I figure I should write out some of the details of our trip, because when I tried to remember when or how long we were in Utah last time, it took me forever to figure it out. So-

6 1/2 weeks in Utah 

(May 25-July 8th)

We left a week and before the kids got out of school...oops (hehehe)

We traveled 3000+ miles (at least thats what our odometer says)

Tony flew home June 3 and then back July 3

We took 2 days to drive to Utah (first day we only made it to Lincoln, NE)

and one day to drive home (19 hours...it was a long day)

We had birthdays (one was literally a birth), Strawberry days, cousin sleep overs, zoo trips, 4th of July, a baptism, and more (all of which will be coming to the blog shortly)

We loved every minute of it, and would do it all over again!!

Ledges State Park

It was warm today. Like this warm.

(Remember how the last time I posted...like a week and a half ago...it was snowing? What the?)

So after the kids got out of school we headed to a state park about a 1/2 an hour away to play in the water!

Tony finished school last Friday, so he's been able to hang out at home with us occasionally, which has been awesome!! :)

May 2

It's May 2. It has snowed all day today and is suppose to continue until tomorrow. You know what comes after May don't you? June. And I would say that most people consider June as a summer month. So what the heck is it doing snowing (and not just a little snow) in May?! It was 80 degrees two days ago. Something isn't right here...

A night at the Bundy house

 I know you wonder (almost every day) what happens at the Bundy house...

Well luckily for you I recorded one entire night and decided to share some of what we did from after school (3:20ish) until dinner (5:45ish). I know you are all super excited to find out the secrets of what happens behind the Bundy's closed doors, so here you go.

Sometimes I talk to my kids (I know, I know. Crazy, right?) and sometimes our conversations aren't exactly normal...
This conversation happened when I was trying to get Fox ready to go to pick up the kids from school. It was a cold wet day and he wanted to wear flip flops.

Me: Yeah, but what if your toes freeze off? Then you wont have any more toes.
Fox: I will tape them back on.
Me: Yeah, but what if a bird comes along and eats your frozen toes before you can tape them back on (unfortunately the not exactly normal conversations are often my fault...)
Fox: Um, I will find another kids toes who have frozen off and tape them to my feet.
Me: What if the bird eats the other kids toes too?
Fox: Then I will eat the birds toes when they freeze off.

Can't argue with that kind of logic

After school Emma and Fox painted. This is Emmas painting of an owl she made for me. :)

 

Playing with Lego's

Emma: (showing me her lego man) See Mom? He has these cute little boots, and that (pointing to his "hat")...well he's a guy that bakes stuff.

 Liam: Mom, I made a portrait of you out of legos. But you have to promise not to laugh because I worked really hard on it.

And don't worry, I didn't leave me out. This is a fantastic picture of me, courtesy of Emma, doing what I do every day, multiple times a day...making stinking food. (Notice the resemblance between this picture and the lego portrait.)

And dinner--Ikea meatballs, potatoes, gravy, lingdin berry sauce and veggie. I craved this for like two weeks straight. Now it makes me slightly nauseous to even look at it. Ah, pregnant cravings. 

And this is a bonus. It didn't happen the same night, but a couple of weeks ago Liam was riding his bike and crashed having the end of the handle bar smash into his chest.

He was sore for several days after, but feeling better now, even though there's still a bruise/wound. Yay bike crashes.

So there you have it. A night at the Bundy's house. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Blank Park Zoo

So in late in March (March 29th to be exact...I looked it up), there was one semi warm day. And I may or may not have talked Tony into playing hooky from school (and letting the kids skip) and going to the zoo. So if Tony fails his classes this semester, we all know who to blame...:)

But it was glorious! After a ridiculously long winter, the sky was finally blue and it was jacket weather!!  So fantastic and well worth any trouble for skipping school. :)

Blank Park Zoo is in Des Moine. It's little. And half of the animals were put away until appropriate weather. But it was still great. 

 (PS Fox is this stage where he wants nothing to do with the camera so the majority of these pictures he is either scowling, or hiding...so enjoy...)

Yay zoo!! Now to just make it through these next three weeks of school for Tony then a week of packing and getting ready, then we head to Utah!! Wahoo!! We're taking the kids out of school a week early again (oops :)), and heading out May 24th and then we are staying (at least me and the kids with Tony here and there)...wait for it...until July 7th!! I can not even tell you how ridiculously excited I am about this. :) Yay!! 29 more days. 29 more days.

Pregnant: Iowa vs. Utah

I miss being pregnant in Utah. Mostly because in Utah when your pregnant with your fourth you don't have people that say things like, "Are you crazy!?" or "Bless you, you brave, brave soul." Because really, no matter how good the intent, those comments don't really make a 4th-baby pregnant woman feel better.

In Utah when your pregnant with your fourth you have people say things like, "Number 4? You wait until #9, that's when things start to get really crazy." Or at least I imagine that's what they say... :) Because everybody has had four kids in Utah, and if they haven't they're the minority. (Okay, so I may be making half of these things up, but it's making me feel a little bit better. ;) )

I had a Mom at our elementary school (who didn't know I was pregnant) say to me today,
"Is that your oldest?" Pointing to Liam.
"Yep"
"You have three? Three's a good number."

I didn't have the guts to tell her that four is a good number too. Because in Iowa, three is abnormal. One or two is normal, three is abnormal, and four is crazy.

Ah, it's going to be so fun to see what people say to me when I have an unmistakable pregnant belly and three kids in tow. Yippie?

But really I'm super excited for four. They just keep getting better and better and funner and funner.
