Liam has started being curious and asking lately what Fox eats. Any time that I nurse Fox I just tell the kids that Fox needs to eat and then put a blanket over him and he nurses. You can see the wheels in Liam's head start to turn and the other day we had this conversation.
Me: "I need to feed Fox" (proceed to nurse)
Liam: "Mom, What does Fox eat?"
Me: "Milk." (realizing what was coming)
Liam: (after thinking for a minute) "Yeah but Mom, where does he get the milk?"
I didn't know what to answer so I just didn't answer him and tried to act interested in the TV (great Mom, I know).
Liam keeps repeating his question.
Emma: (after getting annoyed that Liam keeps asking the same question says very "DUH"-like) "From under the blanket, Liam."
From under the blanket.
So how do you Moms, who are better at handling things, and don't ignore their children, deal with that nursing question? Do I just tell him straight out? But then does he go to school and tell all his friends? Do I make up some lame "stork" answer? I'd love to hear your answers and for your advice. Thanks!!

So about the nursing concern. I might be doing it all wrong also, but when I am nursing I don't cover the baby up (well in public I do!). Lincoln who is Liam's age was curious to, but after a while he got used to it. He asked the same questions as Liam and I was just honest and told him that moms make milk for their babies. I told him about how when he was a baby that was how he got food also. He watched me nurse a few times then the curiosity wore off. He has never mentioned to anyone at school, that I am aware, about how his mommy feeds his baby brother. Good luck! You are a great mom! I love reading your blog.

so, now that you know I stalk your blog, I guess i wont feel quite so weird commenting.. :P
When my 3 yr old asked any questions-
Here's basically what I told him at various times
Anna needs to eat. (what?) Milk. (where?) Heavenly Father made mommy's body special- so that it can make milk for anna to eat.
He knows that it comes from my chest. But Simply telling him Heavenly Father made my body special that way is enough for him. I think kids are generally so innocently curious that even simple, but true, explanations work great.

I'm terrible. I know Mallory. She repeats everything and never stops talking. She knows that I feed William and that he drinks milk. That's it.
Nursing time equals computer time (he eats every 4 hours). I get Mallory's craft box out, she plays in her room, or she hangs out downstairs watching a movie and coloring while mom is on the computer. I always cover up when she is around.
However, she really could care less.
