Our Easter Surprise

Sorry for the stinky quality. I'm not sure why it went so bad on here. But enjoy :) hehehe

Spring, oh, Spring. Wherefore art thou, Spring?

Arg. Winter.

My kids pointed out that this must be why it's called old man winter. It moves ridiculously slow, and gets old fast. :)

I'm done--DONE with winter, I tell you! I'm pretty sure (in fact Tony confirms) that I've suffered from some type of seasonal depression this winter. It's lasted forever, and although I'm usually a fairly happy person, I've had a hard time keeping it together this winter.

But this week (even though it snowed again yesterday) Spring is finally suppose to show up, with highs being in the 40's and 50's! Wahoo!! Who knew I could get so excited about still stinking cold weather? If it melts all the snow I will be ecstatic.

Okay, really I had more to write on here then just my depressing feelings over winter (and my super excited feelings over spring! Wahoo!). I have some funny stories that I wanted to get down before I forgot them.

I took my kids to a friends house yesterday and they had a dog in it's kennel in their house, cats that where running around their house and a snake. My kids were in love. We were there just a few minutes, but long enough for my kids to start fantasizing over animals of their own ;).  I was driving home in a huge, nasty, slick snowstorm when Fox started telling me about the animals, and then told me, "Mom, I'm a cute puppy....but watch out, because I bite." At least he told me so that I didn't get bitten when I got him out of his car seat, and it gave me something to laugh about in a stressful (to me) situation.

We were teasing the kids the other day and telling them that they could only go to The Dollar Tree (a place they wanted to go all Spring Break...what the?) if they answered some questions, and then we'd make the questions real hard. :) (This was occurring as we were driving to The Dollar Tree, so they knew we were just teasing). We asked a few math ones (like whats the square root of 467) and then I asked, "What's the capitol of Louisiana?" Without missing a beat Emma answered, "L!"Which, I couldn't argue with, so she got to go to The Dollar Tree.

Fox often asks me for treats, and he usually get them.... Today he asked for some m&m's. I told him he could have some when he got all of his morning chores done. So, quick as quick can be, he finished them. Unfortunately, he has gotten too smart for my own good because as we walked to the kitchen to get his treats I asked him, "Let's see, how old are you?" (Because when we are home alone I'll give him 3 treats and tell him it's because he's 3 years old.) He innocently answered, "Um...50?"

He got 3 m&m's plus one for good effort. :)

I love parent teacher conferences, because I always manage to come home with some good stories. A few weeks ago I went to meet with the kids teachers for PTC's. Liam had been complaining in the mornings about going to school for the past few days, but he would always come home happy as a lark, and I'm pretty sure he was just ready for a break (Spring break was the next week). While I was waiting to talk to his teacher, I read the persuasive papers that his class had written and put up to show parents. I could not for the life of me find Liam's.

There were papers about why kids should be able to get dogs, or not get dogs, why they should be able to go on vacation to a specific place, ect. I scanned for Liam's but wasn't able to find his name any where. Finally I decided to look for a paper that had a lot of art work on it (Liam loves drawing and coloring...writing, not so much). Sure enough, on the paper with the most artwork and color was a little tiny "Liam" written in the corner. His topic? "Why we should have one more day of school" and had things like "One more day of school equals one more day of knowledge." I laughed out loud, and got a few weird looks from other parents.

So today when he complained about going to school I pointed out his persuasive paper. To which he replied, "I want one more day at the end of school, not the middle." Crazy kid. :)

Once again, I know there's more, but I can't think of them. Oh, well. At least I got these one's down. So, happy spring everyone...because I'm not allowing it to be winter any more. :)

Sledding

Contrary to popular belief (or my belief) Iowa does have some hills...small hills, but some hills. So this year we bought some sleds and headed out to one such hill (at a golf course. It's probably man made ;)). It was a blast! The sleds we got were awesome (and cheap since we bought them late in the season), and went super fast. The kids loved it! We haven't been sledding since Utah, and my kids don't remember ever going, so it was like a whole new experience.

You've go to love Emma's hair in this last picture :) hehehe! I remember having hair like that after an afternoon of sledding, snow and sweaty hats. We are suppose to be getting more snow tonight, and while most people are dreading it, we are kind of hoping for a good amount so we can use our sleds again! And then we are hoping that it melts fast and turns magically into spring, with 70 degree weather....:)

Christmas 2012

Christmas this year was super low key, just like we like it. :)

Kids waiting to see what Santa brought them (btw, I had to wake kids up again this year. What is the deal with that?!)

It was a smorgasbord of awesomeness and presents and fun! Thanks to everyone who sent us gifts and such!!

Poor Liam, we hid his gift from G&G Clark in the very top cupboard (in this picture he is standing on the counter) and then gave him a present with clues how to find it. Actually it was pretty funny and fun, and he was a good sport. (It's the bow and arrows pictured below)

Oh and one last one. This is me at Red Lobster for my birthday! Hooray! It was the best birthday ever. I had delicious Red Lobster and then Tony took me to see Les Mis. It was fantastic!! :)

December

It only mid February, right? I mean I'm only two and half months behind on blogging...not a big deal...

A our ward party Santa came and told stories to the kids and Tony caught this little gem.

My kid has the best fashion sense.

So these ones are mostly from January, but I wasn't sure where else to put them and didn't want to make their own post...so here you go :)

Tony and Emma's creation out of playdoh.

Fox the superhero! (Grandma and Grandpa Clark gave him a batman cape for Christmas...he pretty much lives in that thing.)

We had freezing rain a few weeks ago, so the kids (mostly Tony first, and then the kids joined in) turned the deck into a skating rink.

green crayon

I have more post with pictures coming, I swear....

I washed and dried a green crayon in with all of our pants. It looks like someone took a paintbrush and splattered green oily paint splotches all over the pants. It makes me sick. They are sitting right by me, in a laundry basket, waiting to be "taken care of." Seriously, sick. Hence the blogging, instead of taking care of them. I cried this morning when I found them.

It's going to be a great day.

Gingerbread houses

(so I finally got the pictures off of Tony's phone!! So expect a plethora of post over the next couple of days. Mostly from December and January :))

Notable decorations:
Liam had a pumpkin patch, a dog, and a snowman
Emma made a "happy house" (her words) with a dragon
Fox had a graveyard complete with skeleton in a candybar coffin
